1mg vs. 3mg: How to Pick Your Lane
Free Swim comes in two doses, and the question of which one is yours has a satisfyingly familiar answer — because beverages solved this problem a long time ago.
Some nights are light beer nights. Some nights are IPA nights. Same fridge, different intentions.
The short version
Choose 1mg if you're new to THC, you like a long sessionable hang, or you want a lift so gentle it fits inside a regular weeknight. Choose 3mg if you already know your way around THC and want one can to feel like one complete decision. When in doubt, start at 1mg — you can always drink two.
The case for 1mg: the light beer
The 1mg can is the philosophical heart of Free Swim. It's THC with the anxiety surgically removed — a dose you don't have to do math about, plan around, or respect from a distance.
What that looks like in practice: you can have one with lunch. You can have three over a long cookout and remain the person who remembers where the keys are. The lift is real but unhurried — looser shoulders, easier laughs, a strong gravitational pull toward the nearest lawn chair — and it builds at your pace, can by can, instead of arriving all at once.
1mg is for: first-timers and the THC-curious; the sober-curious building a new rotation; long social sessions where pacing matters; weeknights with a morning attached; anyone who reads "dose-anxiety-free" and feels seen.
The case for 3mg: the IPA
The 3mg isn't a different philosophy — it's the same crisp seltzer with more presence. One can delivers a noticeable, settled-in experience: the difference between background music and putting the record on because you intend to listen to it.
If you've spent time with THC before, 3mg will read as confident but civilized — well below the 5–10mg doses much of the category treats as standard, but enough that a single can is the evening's complete statement.
3mg is for: experienced THC consumers who found 1mg charming but quiet; one-can-and-done drinkers; the end-of-a-long-week occasion; the friend at your hangout who asked, knowingly, "do you have anything with a little more to it?"
The honest math
A natural question: isn't three 1mg cans the same as one 3mg can? Milligram-wise, yes — but the experience differs. Three 1mg cans drunk over three hours is a slow, rolling tide; one 3mg can is the tide arriving on schedule. Pacing is its own ingredient. This is why we'd rather sell you the right dose than the bigger one: the can should match the night you're trying to have.
A note on availability: dose limits vary by state, so which Free Swim you'll find on a shelf depends on where you live. Our DTC store shows what's available in your state.
A simple decision tree
- Never tried THC? → 1mg, no debate. (Start here: THC drinks for beginners)
- Tried it, found edibles too much? → 1mg. You were never the problem; the dose was.
- Comfortable with THC, want a session? → 1mg, several, slowly.
- Comfortable with THC, want one can to count? → 3mg.
- Genuinely torn? → Get both. Light beer people own IPAs. That's what fridges are for.
FAQ
Is 3mg of THC a lot? No — 3mg sits firmly in the low-dose category. Many THC beverages contain 5–10mg per can. But it's meaningfully more present than 1mg, which is why we recommend it for people with some THC experience.
Can a beginner drink a 3mg THC seltzer? A beginner is better served starting at 1mg and working up. If 3mg is your only option, drink half the can, wait an hour, and reassess.
Do the 1mg and 3mg taste different? No — same three flavors (Lemon Lime, Pink Grapefruit, Golden Peach), same crisp seltzer. Only the lift differs. The cans are color-coded so you always know which is in hand.
Can I mix 1mg and 3mg cans in one evening? You can — just count milligrams, not cans, and pace accordingly.
Why does Free Swim include CBD too? Each can pairs its THC with an equal amount of CBD (1mg+1mg or 3mg+3mg), in keeping with the gently-infused, balanced approach the whole brand is built on.
